$365,000 to be spent on improving Bunyip Park

Around $365,000 has been approved for Bunyip Park works to improve road access.

Environment and Climate Change Minister Gavin Jennings said the capital works funding provided to Parks Victoria for the upgrades would help improve access for visitors.

"We are improving our parks and reserves because we understand they are important to people in the community," Jennings said.

"The February fires burnt 46 per cent of Bunyip State Park. The works program in Bunyip will include road maintenance which will upgrade 35 kms of four wheel drive tracks in the park.

"We are also improving visitor safety through a range of initiatives such as tree trimming, providing signage, gates and fences.

Components of the works program will include:

• $280,000 for road maintenance repairs to 35km of four wheel drive tracks
• $80,000 for visitor safety including tree works, signage, gates and fences
• $5000 for stabilising works to protect the parts of the park affected by bushfire

Around $30,000 of the funding being spent on visitor safety will be used for a Green Corps program which helps young people make a contribution to the environment.

"The Green Corps project will provide the opportunity for young people to work within the park on conservation and preservation activities that will give them valuable knowledge of the natural environment and Victoria’s cultural heritage," Jennings said.
