Andromeda recycles old conveyor belt into erosion control solution

ANDROMEDA Industries says AusIndustry’s R&D Tax Concession has helped it recycle old rubber conveyor belts from the mining sector into erosion control products.

According to Andromeda, the belts, which are up to 1800mm wide, are used to stabilise sand dunes, waterways and paths. And they are also being used in horse and stock yards, as barriers to contain bamboo roots.

Andromeda says to achieve the environment-focused products coming out of its Reusables Division, it had to invent, design and construct a range of machinery in-house, such as hydraulic crimping tools and slicers for conveyor belts.

It also commissioned a $500,000 Enviro 40 Belt machine, constructed so the belts can now be punched with a wide variety of hole sizes and patterns.

Andromeda says there has been demand for a greater variety of belts from local councils, national parks and wildlife committees.
