Dugine Native Plant Nursery takes the Savewater! 2009 small business award

 SAVEWATER! says small Queensland nursery, Dugine Native Plant Nursery has won its 2009 small business award as it reduced its water consumption by 100%.

According to Savewater!, with only four staff the Queensland nursery proactively addressed the need to preserve potable water and by implementing various initiatives, to the point where it now uses a combination of bore and rain water to irrigate.

Dugine Native Plant Nursery says with support from the Nursery & Garden Industry Queensland (NGIQ) and Department of Primary Industries (DPI), it aimed at becoming as water wise and environmentally friendly as possible.

In conjunction with the NGIQ, Dugine is said to be actively promoting itself as an environmentally friendly nursery and hold workshops for other growers to view the benefits of undertaking such initiatives.
