Bardwell Valley Golf Club will soon use rainwater to keep its greens and fairways in condition.
The Golf Club has received a $20,000 grant from Sydney Water to install a new rainwater irrigation system for all its irrigation needs.
The project has been in the making for some years, with a $50,000 Commonwealth Government Grant covering the installation of a pond near the third hole and a collection well in Bardwell Creek to collect rainwater.
"Plans to install an irrigation system were put on hold during the global financial crisis, leaving the club with a pond full of water and no means to get the precious water onto the course," says Andy Lloyd, Bardwell Valley Golf Club general manager.
"After receiving Sydney Water’s grant, the club was able to install a system that will use rainwater to irrigate the entire course."
Sydney Water’s pilot Water Saver Grant program, which was offered on a trial basis between April 2008 and June 2009, reimbursed half the cost of water efficiency projects valued between $4,000 and $40,000.
Sydney Water will assess the results of the pilot program before making a decision to extend it.
