Live grass laid on the Harbour Bridge for breakfast

Around 10,620 sqm of live Kikuyu grass was laid from pylon to pylon across six lanes of the Sydney Harbour Bridge for the 'Breakfast on the Bridge' event, held Sunday, October 25.

A NSW grass farm provided the turf, with the grass to be recycled after the event.

"This is Sydney at its very best and another extraordinary event proving we can do anything," Premier Nathan Rees said. "Images from the event will be sent around the world, highlighting once again our amazing outdoor city. "The Government's investment will be returned 10 fold by another boost to our world class reputation.

"One of the drawcards is that the bridge’s roadway will be transformed into a green park. Countless hours of planning and preparation have gone in to make it a day to remember. Living grass will turn our gateway to Sydney into our newest harbour foreshore.

"Breakfast on the Bridge is set to become one of our most famous Sydney events and will boost our economy, tourism and jobs."

Breakfast on the Bridge was a free event, with around 6,000 people having a picnic breakfast on the bridge as part of Sydney's Crave festival, which offers 31 days of food and outdoor art during the month of October.
