FEDERAL Parliamentary Secretary for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Maxine McKew says Darwin and Palmerston CBD’s are receiving investment of $8.6m and $3m respectively for urban revitalisation projects.

According to the Secretary, both CBD’s are to be landscaped to liveability and sustainability, with both works scheduled to begin in October.

The Darwin City Centre CBD is receiving $3.6m in funds from the Federal Government, $1.75m and $1.55m from the NT Government and the City of Darwin respectively and $500,000 from the Paspalis Property Trust.

The Secretary says the Darwin City Centre redevelopment includes more shade trees, shade sails and public art. Better landscaping and street furniture are also included in the urban revitalisation project to construct an improved landscaped and welcoming space.

McKew says Palmerston’s $3m CBD redevelopment will see existing paving removed to be replaced with two square kilometres of concrete paving and 600 square metres of textured paving. Better landscaping, more light poles and seating are also part of the upgrade.

The Darwin City Centre Revitalisation and Palmerston’s CBD Redevelopment are both Strategic Projects funded under the Federal Government’s $1b Community Infrastructure Program (CIP), part of the Nation-Building Economic Stimulus Plan.
