THE ENGLISH monarchy has turned part of Buckingham Palace gardens into a vegetable patch, for the first time since World War II.
According to a Palace spokesman, with the backing of Prince Charles, The Queen has turned part of her gardens into an organic allotment and the idea may have originated from April 2009’s Chelsea Flower Show.
This apparently comes at a time in England where self-grown vegetables is so popular around 100,000 people are on waiting lists for scarce vegetable garden allotments.
The spokesman says the Royal allotment is called the Yard Bed and is in a north-facing part of the gardens as everything else has been landscaped.
American President Barack Obama is said to have turned part of the White House lawn into a vegetable garden.
