Ballina landscape designs on display

Landscape design options for the Ballina bypass interchange at Teven Road, aiming to create an attractive and practical gateway into Ballina that reflects the character of the area and its residents, will soon be on display for comment.

"Two urban landscaping design options have been developed for the major interchange to be built at Teven Road, on the southern end of the bypass," an RTA spokesperson said.

"In addition, a landscaping design for the Cumbalum interchange has also been developed for the northern end of the bypass."

All three designs will be on display at the Ballina Fair Shopping Centre on 27 and 28 November, where forms will be available for public comment.

"The designs celebrate the traditional view of Ballina as a place of plenty, with a strong connection to water and marine themes. Colours, textures, materials and plantings have been carefully chosen to reflect local characteristics," the spokesperson said.

The RTA and Ballina Shire Council will then choose on of the two designs and prepare detailed design plans for construction of both interchanges.

The section from Cumbalum to Ross Lane is scheduled for completion by late 2010 and the section to the Bruxner Highway opening in mid-2012.

The RTA has formed an alliance with Leighton Contractors, AECOM, SMEC and Coffey Geotechnics to design and construct the Ballina bypass section of the Pacific Highway upgrade.

The project will provide 11.5 km of double lane divided road extending from south of Ballina at the intersection of the Bruxner and Pacific Highways to north of Ballina at the intersection of Ross Lane at Tintenbar.
