CITYGARDEN, a recently opened US public garden is said to be incomparable with no real equivalent anywhere as it blends landscaping with modern and contemporary sculpture.
The public landscaped space in St. Louis has been tagged as an urban oasis, merging art and nature, stone and water, architecture and design. Citygarden features fountains and pools, a waterfall and a café, the public park is neither surrounded by walls or fences.
The garden which opened to the public in July occupies the two street blocks and construction began in April, 2008. The not-for-profit Gateway Foundation provided the funding for the project, an estimated US$25 to $30m (A$29.8 to 35.8m).
Citygarden features 20 different kinds of trees, including shade and flowering species, as well as shrubs, exotic plants and lush flowers. It also features 24 pieces of large-scale modern and contemporary sculpture by nationally and internationally renowned artists.
