Final design released for world's largest sculpted human form

BANKS Developments has released the final design for UK's Northumberlandia landform, which entails the world's largest sculpted human form on the surface of a mine.

According to Banks, the landform park which built into the Northumberland countryside will be accessible to the general public will be developed at Shotton surface mine. The development has the go-ahead by Banks Group and Blagdon Estate, on whose land the mine sits.

Banks says artist and designer Charles Jencks developed the designs for the 400m long and up to 34m high Northumberlandia landform which will form the centrepiece to a 29-hectare public park. The landscaped artform will be created from 1.5 million tons of soil and clay from the Shotton surface mine.

Banks says in addition to the artwork itself, the surrounding landform park will offer important nature conservation and public health benefits, giving both local people and visitors a suitable place to exercise and picnic.

Work is scheduled to begin in 2010 for the Northumberlandia creation, which will take up to a year to complete.
