GREENING Australia says it was awarded the Land and Biodiversity award category at the 2009 Banksia Environment Awards for its ACT Land Keepers project.
According to Greening, the project is a partnership project between the ACT Natural Resource Management Council and Greening Australia Capital Region. It is funded by the State and Federal Governments targeting the conservation of rural and non-urban land.
Greening says the ACT Land Keepers project has engaged 3,950 active volunteers and 56 rural land managers for the enhancement and reestablishment of native vegetation. The project covers 1,715 hectares across 181 sites throughout the ACT.
The project also established a community seed bank and 18 Seed Production Areas to supply revegetation activities.
