Landscape architects contribute to Barangaroo winning design

Public spaces at the $6 billion Barangaroo precinct will include a large southern cove, while the signature fan of buildings will culminate in a landmark building perched in the harbour at the end of a public pier.

The winning design has been created by Lend Lease working with Australian and international architects and landscape architects.

"The commercial and business core has been set amid extensive public places and parks," says NSW Premier Kristina Keneally.

"This Barangaroo design will cement Sydney as an innovative and global city as well as the financial hub of the Asia-Pacific.

"The landmark design unfurls towards the harbour through a spectacular fan of towers and a series of striking waterfront public spaces.

"Designed to evoke the tall ships that played a crucial role in the city’s early history, the building links Sydney’s past and future.

Set within the 430,000 sqm precinct, the commercial and business core of Barangaroo will include a 30,000 sqm shopping precinct.

Design features include public waterfront spaces, pedestrian and public transport connections and a fan of towers radiating from the CBD through to the harbour.

The development will be climate positive; carbon neutral, through groundbreaking energy-efficient design and on and off-site renewable energy generation; water positive, through on-site water collection and treatment and generate zero waste, through reducing, reusing and recycling.
