Landscape student awards open

The Australian Institute of Landscape Designers and Managers (AILDM) has announced the 2010 National Student Design Competition for students enrolled in a landscape design course in Australia.

Students studying for other awards may apply for special permission to enter with the support of their design teacher.

An additional award will be attached to the competition - the Allan Correy Student Design Award. The prize will be a trophy in the same form as the annual AILDM Design Award trophies as well as a bound copy of a thesis on Allan’s career by UNSW graduate Terry Boyle.

The prize will go to the entry that best represents the spirit of landscape design and may be awarded to any entry.

The philosophy of the competition is to encourage students to design imaginatively and creatively while being mindful of the practical considerations of site constraints and opportunities, client’s needs, local government rules and environmental issues.

While students are not restricted by a design and construction budget, they must be able to specify and source from where the materials for the garden would be obtained including all hard & soft landscaping elements.

Students must design a garden for the rear of a two-storey attached house in an inner city suburb. The occupants are a couple with two young children.

Students must also adhere to other specifications, such as existing fences on the site.

Entries must be received by 5 pm December 3, 2010.
