VICTORIAN Minister for Environment and Climate Change, Gavin Jennings says the State Government has funded a $4m weed control program on Melbourne’s outer urban fringe.
According to the Minister, the four year Urban Fringe Weed Management initiative is a partnership between the State Government and the Shire of Yarra Ranges for weed control in the Dandenongs, with both funding $250,000.
The Minister says the Shire of Yarra Ranges is a priority area for weed control as it contains environmentally significant sites which attract visitors and tourists to the ranges area.
The Urban Fringe program is said to help develop an effective approach to weed control in the Dandenongs which would directly involve local people. Weed control will also reduce fire risks in these areas.
