QUEENSLAND Treasurer and Minister for Employment, Andrew Fraser says 16 young and Indigenous jobseekers will gain landscaping and construction skills while building in Gatton.

According to the Minister, the youths will gain skills while helping to build the first stage of Gatton’s South East Correctional Precinct as part of a State Government-funded jobs project.

The Minister says the youths will establish a ‘buffer zone’ along Krugers Road by planting trees, turfing and installing irrigation. They will also spend time working with qualified tradespeople such as concreters, bricklayers, steel fixers and scaffolders.

Fraser says the State Government’s Skilling Queenslanders for Work initiative has provided $150,000 to fund 22-week paid work placements to help this group start careers in landscaping or horticulture.
