QUEENSLAND Parliamentary Secretary for Employment, Jan Jarratt says Jobs Queensland will receive $54k from the Australian Government’s Productivity Places Program for a Skill Production project.
According to the Parliamentary Secretary, twenty-four long-term unemployed people and recently retrenched workers will be able to take on State Government-funded horticultural training in Caloundra and Beerwah to help start new careers.
The Parliamentary Secretary says twelve people will be recruited in each location to complete qualifications in horticulture. Participants will study for one day a week over 16 weeks, and take on 12 days of work experience with local employers to use their new skills in the workplace.
Jobs Queensland general manager, Chamay Bauer says research had found local nurseries and landscaping firms were looking for skilled staff.
