Recipients announced for the 2008/09 Healthy Parks Healthy People Grants

VICTORIAN Minister for Environment, Gavin Jennings has announced the recipients of the 2008/09 Healthy Parks Healthy People Grants which target areas of park management.

According to the Minister, the Healthy Parks Healthy People (HPHP) grants program will fund projects which protect and enhance the natural, cultural and heritage values of Victoria’s parks and reserves.

The Minister says a total of $548,379 would be awarded to 152 programs. One community group to receive a HPHP grant is Golden Point Landcare Group which has a project based in the Castlemaine Diggings National Heritage Park.

Jennings says Golden Point Landcare will assist Parks Victoria with management of Gorse and Blackberry. Control has been carried out previously and the group will add value to this project by following up the maintenance of treated areas which will allow further rehabilitation and regeneration.
