Recent research has revealed one in two people believe adding a deck or a pergola/gazebo to their outdoor area would make their property more valuable.
Other findings from the research, conducted nation-wide on behalf of the Western Red Cedar Export Association (WRCEA), reveal:
• respondents aged 45-55 were more likely to invest in a pergola or gazebo than any other outdoor structure
• nearly one in two respondents would rather undertake property improvements or renovations than go on a holiday
• two-fifths of respondents would prefer to makeover the garden or outdoor area rather than the interior of their home
• one-third of respondents enjoy spending most of their time at home in an outdoor area
• respondents aged 55-64 enjoyed the outdoor area of their home the most
• one in four Australians believe building a pool would add value to their home
"[Western Red Cedar] is uniquely suited for use in garden structures as it is one of the most durable woods available. Western Red Cedar is superbly resistant to decay and it contains natural preservatives which resist both decay and insect damage, says Jack Draper, managing director of the WRCEA.
"Western Red Cedar’s natural beauty and range of grades means that it will be easy to co-ordinate into any design scheme. Unfinished, the timber has a large spectrum of colours ranging from mellow amber to reddish cinnamon to deep sienna brown. Left untreated, Western Red Cedar will naturally weather to a silver grey colour."
