FEDERAL Minister for Environment, Peter Garrett says small grant guidelines have been released to support local environmental and land management work.
According to the Minister, the $5m Community Action Grants program, through Caring for our Country, was announced recently in response to feedback from community groups.
The Minister says the program is expected to provide around 500 grants of between $5,000 and $20,000 to support smaller, local projects run by groups such as Landcare and Coastcare, as well as Indigenous groups. The grants are designed to support some groups which have not yet received funding under Caring for our Country.
Garrett says projects may include tree planting, revegetation, dune rehabilitation, field days and natural resource management in remote and northern Australia.
Applications are said to be available online from 1 to 22 October 2009.
