QUEENSLAND Minister for Local Government, Desley Boyle says Stanthorpe's streetscape redevelopment will provide a boost to the Darling Downs tourism industry.
According to the Minister, the new seating, plants and evergreen shade trees complement the city's historic buildings. The recently completed $300k third stage of the streetscape redevelopment was jointly funded by the State Government and the Southern Downs Regional Council.
The Minister says the multi-phased streetscape redevelopment started in 2000 and has included improvements to disability access at the library and art gallery, more public spaces with seating, increased shade cover, new plants and public art works.
Features of the revamped streetscape are said to include handmade tiles set into the footpath to represent postage stamps and a sculpture which incorporates granite into sandstone.
The State Government has provided over $11m for local projects including the Stanthorpe redevelopment since July 2006.
