WESTERN Australian Minister for Water, Graham Jacobs has announced a winter sprinkler ban will be introduced for southern Western Australia from 1 July to 31 August 2009.
According to the Minister, the ban will affect integrated scheme water, garden bore users and selected licensees. The garden-based industries will be exempt from the ban, but will be closely involved in the assessment of the trial.
The Minister says the enforceable ban will be trialled for two months and refers to existing areas which utilise the two-day roster system established by Water Corporation regulations, including those supplied by the Bunbury Aqwest and Busselton Water Board.
Irrigation experts say many parts of southern WA do not need gardens watered during winter and the trial will help identify if and how permanent bands should be applied in winter.
