Tuscan Foundry reveals cast iron and copper are greener than modern materials

TUSCAN Foundry says cast iron more is sustainable than its modern material counterparts, and more cost effective in the long term.

According to the company, its research has proven the total life cost of copper and cast iron rainwater products is a third of that of PVC and aluminium over a 100 year life cycle.

The research report found that 80% of cast iron is recycled, 55% for copper, 33% for aluminium and zero for PVC. Proving cast iron and copper are much greener than modern materials.

While PVC and aluminium have lower capital costs compared to copper and cast iron, over a 100 year life cycle the greener materials feature a whole life repair cost of only 35% compared to PVC and aluminium.
