VICTORIAN Minister for Environment, Gavin Jennings says the Victoria’s Catchment Management Authorities (CMA) is using $28.5m to help restore catchments and biodiversity.
According to the Minister, the funding will be used by Victoria’s 10 CMAs for land, biodiversity, native vegetation and river and estuary projects across Victoria in 2009 to 2010.
The Minister says the CMAs will coordinate the protection and rehabilitation of more than 90,000 hectares of land. This includes conservation agreements with landholders to protect native bush and protective fencing for native vegetation along waterways and within farmland.
Jennings says by helping CMAs protect and enhance the environment the Victorian Government is protecting threatened plants and animals in the catchments as well as tackling salinity, erosion and weeds.
