WA names some of its parks for free entry on World Parks Day

WESTERN Australian Minister for Environment, Donna Faragher says World Parks Day 2009 aims to promote the role of parks and local green spaces in people’s lives.

According to the Minister, the second annual World Parks Day is an initiative of the Parks for Life, International Urban Parks and Green Space Alliance. It is being supported by various national parks agencies across Australia, including the Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC) in Western Australia.

The Minister says on 19 September the public can enjoy family activities through DEC’s Nearer to Nature program at the Perth Hills National Parks Centre. With a 20% discount on night tours at Barna Mia animal sanctuary in the Dryandra Woodland, free guided walks and koala viewing at Yanchep.

Faragher says people can also gain free entry into at least six of WA’s parks on the day including Avon Valley, Serpentine, Walyunga, John Forrest, Yanchep and Cape Range national parks.
