World Parks Day comes again internationally for 19 September

THE SECOND annual World Parks Day will be held on 19 September internationally to celebrate and boost the profile of the urban parks movement.

According to organisers, the emergence of the key park industry bodies in the US, UK, Australia and New Zealand during the past decade reflect the growing commitment of management agencies to the parks agenda.

Organisers say the peak bodies of City Parks Alliance (USA), GreenSpace (UK) and Parks Forum (Australia & New Zealand) represent all the leading management agencies in their regions.

The theme for World Parks Day 2009 is said to be ‘Parks for Life’ and it aims to promote the role of parks throughout the life-cycle while encouraging people to enjoy and appreciate their local green space.

The International Federation of Parks and Recreation Administration (IFPRA) is said to have a focus on urban parks. IFPRA will formally sign on as a cooperating organization in Parks for Life, the International Urban Parks and Green Space Alliance, at its Asia-Pacific conference in Christchurch, New Zealand from 15 to 18 September.
