IPEX has launched the Bionax PVCO Pressure Pipe for buried portable water mains, irrigation applications and sewage force mains.

IPEX says it has invested millions of dollars into developing the Pressure Pipe, which is produced by modifying PVC under precisely controlled stress and temperature conditions to form a new material - Biaxially Oriented PVC or PVCO. According to the company, the process gives the product twice the tensile strength and three times the toughness of PVC. The new material is also said to exhibit dramatically increased fatigue resistance and ductility.

IPEX says the PVCO is a major step forward in environmental sustainability as the pipe has less ‘embodied energy’ and therefore a smaller carbon footprint that other common piping materials. Once installed, the Bionax PVCO Pressure Pipe’s larger inside diameters and smooth surface reduce the energy (and costs) associated with pumping.
